About Karen Turner

Karen Turner gained 25 years of experience with two large firms - a large, full-service downtown Dallas law firm and the southwest's largest family law firm, before she established her own firm.

This experience has helped her master the detail and technical expertise necessary in complex property cases and child custody litigation. She is also widely experienced in the creation and execution of marital agreements and is a prolific practitioner of collaborative law.

Few Texas divorce and family law attorneys understand what divorcing people are going through better than Karen Turner. Besides having experience as a Dallas family law attorney, she is a child of divorce and a stepparent, is divorced herself and is now a single parent.


Karen is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists. She serves as a member of the board of directors of the Family Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association. She is also a Fellow of the Dallas Bar Foundation and has been elected to the Annette Stewart Inn of Court. And she is a member of the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas. She also serves as a member of the Committee for a Qualified Judiciary (CQJ) in Dallas County.

Born March 16, 1962 in Longview, Texas, she graduated from Texas Tech University (B.A. cum laude, Advertising, 1984) and the University of Texas School of Law (J.D. cum laude, 1988).

She has been selected to the list of Texas Super Lawyers by her fellow attorneys (Thomson Reuters, 2003-2006, and 2008-2013) and was listed among the state's most outstanding family law lawyers in Texas Monthly. She has been honored by Best Lawyers (2011-2014), is AV (top) Rated by her peers in Martindale-Hubbell, and has been named a Preeminent Woman Lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell.


Karen has written and spoken to attorney organizations on such topics as Enforcement of Court Orders in Family Law Cases, Legislative Changes to the Family Code and The Use and Preparation of Trial Notebooks. Her article Marital Property Agreements - Business Tools appears in the February, 2014 issue of Headnotes, the monthly publication of the Dallas Bar Association.

She has also done radio interviews on Divorce Do-Overs for Rational Radio and on Grandparent Custody of Children for KLIF 570 Radio in Dallas.

She lives in the Park Cities with her two children and is involved in numerous community activities. She is a past board member, Dallas Child Advocacy Center; current member, Women's Auxiliary to Children's Medical Center; current volunteer, Highland Park United Methodist Church; past board member, Dallas Summer Musicals; current volunteer, Armstrong Elementary; and past volunteer, Parkland Hospital; performing pro bono services in family law matters.
